Parapet Roof Penetration Thermal Bridging Solution

The roof forms part of the building envelope, and penetrations such as davits, anchors and supports for dunnage can pass through the thermal envelope and roof insulation causing interruptions in continuous insulation. These connection points are often tied to interior trusses or structural elements, creating thermal bridges and points of heat flow. In these areas, the roof’s R-value can decrease by as much as 40%.

Parapet Roof Penetration Thermal Break

Installing a structural thermal break at these penetration points can enhance the U-value of the roof assembly and help prevent condensation issues at structural connections. Armatherm™ FRR and 500 series thermal break materials can handle the loads at these locations while significantly reducing heat flow, maintaining continuous insulation. Heat loss at these points can be reduced by up to 80%.
